Ongoing Missions at Redland Baptist Church

Soup Kitchen

Join David and Conny Houser and their team as they minister every third Saturday at the Lord’s Table soup kitchen at St. Martin’s Catholic Church. This ministry involves setting tables, preparing and serving a meal and cleaning up afterwards. Several times a year our children’s mission groups make table favors or placemats for the guests. Redland also collects tube socks at Christmas to be distributed to guests of the soup kitchen.

Manna Food Center

Brian and Carrie Lagas take a team once a quarter to the Manna Food Center in Gaithersburg to help sort canned food items and prepare it for distribution. This is a great way for a family to work together to minister to those in our community.

Embrace Baltimore

For two years now Redland has helped collect school supplies to be distributed to inner city children in Baltimore through the Embrace Baltimore project. Donations of school supplies help children have a more successful year of learning.

Baptist Family and Children’s Services

At Christmas each year Redland teams with Baptist Family and Children's Services (BFCS) to provide presents to children who might not otherwise receive them. Each child receives necessary items of clothing and a “toy” on their wish list. Help us brighten a child’s Christmas.

Habitat for Humanity

Members of Redland worked with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County to complete a Habitat house in Poolesville that was built entirely through the efforts of local churches. Most recently we worked on townhouses in Maryland.

P.I.E. (People Involved in Evangelism)

Once a quarter on a Wednesday night Redlanders gather to participate in a variety of evangelistic activities. These include writing welcome cards to new members of the community, distributing doorknob hangers advertising opportunities within the church such as sports camp, VBS and Harvest Festival, and delivering pies to potential new members.

Amani ya Juu

Redland member Cathie Burke is a missionary in Nairobi, Kenya with the Amani ya Juu project. Amani teaches refugee women how to provide for themselves and their families. Redland sent a team to Kenya in the summer of 2002 to work directly with the women. In the fall of 2005 we brought three of the women here to Maryland to continue our relationships and ministry partnership. In August 2007 we sent a team to teach the Amani women how to use puppets as a ministry and we built a puppet stage. Several times a year Amani products are available for sale here at Redland.

Amani Watoto

Amani Watoto is a ministry to the children of refugee families. The proceeds from our new cookbook sales go towards this ministry.

Imani Children’s Home

Redland youth take up an offering that is sent monthly to help support a child at the Imani children’s home in Kenya. This money goes towards clothing and providing school supplies to help educate the children.

Vacation Bible School

Every summer children in our community participate in Vacation Bible School. This is a fun way to teach children about God in a non-threatening atmosphere through games, stories, crafts, music and worship.

Sports Camp

Redland has successfully completed it’s third year of providing sports camps for children ages 4 through fifth grade. Children in our community have not only received instruction in sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball and flag football, but they have heard about God in daily devotionals presented at camp.

Mission Trips

Every summer Redland sends teams out into the mission fields around the country and the world to participate in various projects. Our youth have attended World Changers in Jefferson City, MO, Watertown, NY, Greenville, NC and Youngstown, OH. We have sent teams to Oriental, Mexico; Conway, NH; Nairobi, Kenya; and Romania. Currently we are investigating the possibilities of sending a team to the Republic of Guinea, West Africa.
